About Kibingo Washing Station:
Established in the early 2000s, Kibingo sits at nearly 1,900 m above sea level, where cool nights and volcanic soils coax extraordinary sweetness and clarity from each cherry. Today, over 3,500 smallholder farmers across 18 surrounding hills deliver ripe fruit here, pooling resources to invest in quality-driven infrastructure—from renovated mills to expanded drying patios.
The Red Bourbon trees trace their roots back to 1930s, when travelling Catholic missionaries first introduced the cultivar—those same heirloom plants still form the backbone of today’s harvest. Kibingo’s co-operative model channels profits into community projects, including local schools and women’s empowerment programmes, ensuring every purchase nurtures both crop and community. Each season yields dozens of micro-lots, but only the brightest cherries earn their way into our Burundiki Bingo Kayanza roast. Enjoy a cup of history, craftsmanship and heart with every sip.
